The Celebrators: A Retrospective
The images contained within this gallery where shot in 1994 during the first Martin Luther King Jr Day Parade on Beatties Ford Rd in Charlotte NC. I call it The Celebrators because many of the pictures are of the people who lived in the community. They lined the streets of the parade route, they helped build the floats and the children marched in the parade. To me, they earned the right to celebrate their community in such a way because they worked hard to maintain and care for their community. In order to celebrate your community you must participate in the maintenance of it. Otherwise, you are only a spectator.
